"I am a God" (song lyrics from Kanye West's new album "Yeezus":

"I just talked to Jesus
He said, 'What up, Yeezus?'
I said, 'S***, I'm chilling
Trying to stack these millions.'
I know he the most high
But I am a close high
Mi casa es su casa
That's that cosa nostra
I am a God
I am a God
I am a God"

Dear Kanye,

To say I'm shocked by the lyrics to this new song of yours doesn't fully explain my thoughts.  Sadly – grievously, in fact – my heart hurts for you.  It appears as though you have not “ascended” to a great height, as you suggest, but have “descended” to the greatest low of your life.

In 2002, and before you were well-known, you were in a horrific car crash that nearly killed you.  Fortunately, God spared your life and merely left you to mend a broken-in-three-places jaw along with fractures.  You have even been quoted talking about walking away from another car crash, where your car flipped three times.  In a video clip, you were recorded as saying you were “unbreakable” like Bruce Willis.

Your arrogant pride is not foul because you believe yourself to be physically indestructible or the most talented rapper/musician.  Instead, it is much more sinister -- even uglier -- than that.  For you have falsely elevated yourself to "godhood".  You are not God, nor are you A god.  You are a man, a mere man, a sinner in the hands of an angry God who will not share his throne with the likes of any mere man.

So, please allow me to direct your attention to figures in history who thought they had also elevated themselves to godhood status:

1)  In 44 BC, Julius Caesar permitted a statue of himself with the inscription, "The unvanquished god," and declared himself dictator for life. That same year, Julius Caesar was killed by citizens who wanted to see Rome return to its earlier republican ideas. (Here)

2) Sun Myung Moon, leader of the Unification Church, claimed he was the second-coming of Jesus Christ.  Moon died September 3, 2012. (Here)

3) Lucifer, who was the highest of the angels, adored his own beauty and giftedness so much that he aspired to conquer the throne of God and usurp His authority.  He failed and was kicked out of heaven, one day to be damned in Hell for all of eternity.

Please recognize this.  The first two figures are dead, and the third is condemned.  Please, Kanye, do not make the same grievous, blasphemous mistake and meet the same fate.  While you see daylight, there is still time to repent of your sinful pride.  You are a sinner who is far from god-hood, and you need a perfect Savior.  One day, your knee will bow to the one and only Most High God.  Whether you think you are a god or a man, you will bow (Phil 2:10), just as Caesar, Moon, and Lucifer will do.

May you find mercy from the hand of God.
