1,375 POUNDS OF MARIJUANA:

It has been nearly 2 years since I seized this jackpot of green-ness. Know what the perps got for it? Probation and $5,000 fines! Pathetic!

  1. You know the amazing thing though is that busts like that are a lot like catching cockroaches. For everyone one you get, there are thousands of others that you never see.

  2. As the guy I arrested the other day would say, "That's fa-sho!"

That's sad, but I'm not surprised. I run an Internal Audit group. We catch people stealing thousands of dollars of stuff and they get no jail time plus an interest free loan -- i.e., they pay back part of what they stole over time, but if they can't afford to pay it back there are no consequences.

You really don't want the public to know how you get one big "free" theft before you see any jail time!

  5. Unfortunately, I caught these guys in Wayne County...which is the county that houses the lovely city of Detroit. Very liberal judges. Just as Paul Harvey would say, "And now you know the rest of the story."

Neil, sadly your story in the audit group is the same in criminal law. I think that's why American values are deteriorating...there are no consequences for wrong-doing.

By the way, I wonder if that's why so many people have the view of God that they do: that He's always loving, never judging our sin...like our judges. They must think God is an American.
